EN: Fashion is the world’s most polluting industry: the production, use and disposal of fashion garments harm for our planet. We need to buy mess and choose better.
Clothes used to last longer. But this did not only change due to the arrival of fast fashion, but also because of our habits. There are certain actions that men and women should take.
Coser botones y hacer reparaciones / Sewing buttons and fixing clothes
EN: It is too irresponsible to throw away something that can be repaired. Taking a needle and a thread, and following an online tutorial is simple and important. Find a seamstress (and even a cobbler) for more complex fixes. As long as the fabric is not damaged, it is almost certain the garment is fixable.
Planchar / Ironing
EN: Undoubtedly we must go back to using natural fibers (cotton, linen, hemp…) because when we wash fabrics, we actually spilling fibers into the water. Our clothes will get wrinkles again. Ironing is very simple, but takes time, and that means we have to be more organized.
Comprar menos / Buying less
EN: We need to face it: following every trend, collecting several garments alike, avoiding repetition of clothes, and buying on impulse, are actions that we will have to abandon sooner or later. It is time to rediscover personal style, to be creative to choose what we wear, and to benefit quality over quantity.

These are great tips! I’ve been working on buying less the past few years and I’m trying to take better care of the pieces I do have!

This is SO important!! I hate the culture of ‘needing to keep with the trends’ – none of this really matters, businesses just want your money and it’s sad that the planet is getting the brunt of the greediness. I don’t buy clothes that often and when I do I opt for things that are going to last!

Yes I have been buying less and buying pre-loved clothes and renting too. And we do indeed need to back to natural fibers.

Loved reading this, I agree it is our habits that are changing, we need to learn to just pay for things to be fixed, rather than throwing them out and buying new things.
