Thoughts on job searching, applications, and interviews 💼✨⁣ ⁣ Yesterday I finally signed my employment contract ✍🏼 I officially have a job now. My first real job! That’s crazy! ⁣ ⁣ After I’ve sent my first (and only) application a couple of weeks ago and I was invited to my first (and only) job interview, you asked me to write a post about this topic. I must confess it’s hard to do so when I have almost no experience with it. I was so lucky that it took me only one application to get my job. I was lucky because I fit in, and the same can happen for you. However, it’s not always the way it goes. I actually know a lot of people who will graduate next week as well and have no job yet.⁣ ⁣ It’s also difficult to tell you something about applications, resumes, and job interviews because every job is different. And I think that’s one of the most important things to do: get information about the position and job you apply for. Adapt your application corresponding, but be true to yourself and your own values.⁣ ⁣ For resumes and applications, I think it’s important to stand out, and a beautifully layoutet resume will get the employer’s attention. Don’t use too many fonts or colours; keep it simple but well-layoutet. You can find some templates online on e.g. Etsy or design them yourself.⁣ ⁣ If you’re so lucky to make it to the interview, it’s important to be yourself and come prepared. Take your application with you, read it the night before and prepare questions or things you want to add. Remember a job interview is not an oral exam, but of course they try to find out if you are the one they need. It’s exhausting, because suddenly it’s all about you and you get a feeling of „I need to do better than everyone else“. However, remember that nothing is wrong with YOU if you don’t get the job. It’s not unusual to not get the first job you apply for (and I know it’s easy for me to say this if I’m the opposite example).⁣ ⁣ I was just about to delete all this because it seems so obvious, but if it can help anyone just a little bit, I’m satisfied 💌
